Audio Recording Studio

The Teaching and Learning Center's Audio Recording Studio, located in Anderson Hall, is available as a resource to all WCU faculty. Inside the studio, you will find a four-person podcasting setup, equipped with a Rodecaster Pro mixing board, Rode microphones, and headphones, as well as a single-user recording setup, equipped with a high-definition video camera, radio broadcast-quality microphone, and a dual-boot computer with commonly used recording software for both macOS and Windows. Now you can create content for your course with professional equipment without the noise and distractions of your office or home!

The studio can be reserved on weekdays between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm (8:30am and 3:30pm during the summer) on days when the Teaching and Learning Center is open. To reserve time, email our Associate Instructional Designers at tlc@wcupa.edu

FAQ

Can Students use the studio?

No, this is a resource for WCU faculty only.

Will someone show me how to work the equipment?

A staff member from the Teaching and Learning Center is usually available by appointment to give first-time users a brief orientation of the studio's equipment. Please specify in your reservation email that you will need an orientation to make sure a designer is available at that time.

Will someone teach me how to use Camtasia or one of the other programs available on the computer?

Faculty reserving time in the studio should already have experience using available software. Please consult IS&T's Faculty and Staff Training Schedule for more information about upcoming training sessions on tools such as Camtasia.

What should I bring with me to a recording session?

  • Your planning materials (e.g. a script, notes, etc.)
  • For the individual recording setup, consider bringing a USB flash drive or portable hard drive for saving the recordings you create. Files can also be saved directly to a cloud storage service (e.g. OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.) from the computer. Please note that recording files will regularly be deleted from the studio's computer.
  • For the podcast setup, bring a laptop to transfer the recording from the soundboard. Please note that recording files will be regularly deleted from the Rodecaster Pro.

Can I install my own software on the studio's computer?

This will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and the answer may be dictated by the terms of the software's license. Please contact tlc@wcupa.edu for consideration.
