Academics
Economics Major
The economics program presents students with a business orientation of economic analysis. The curriculum emphasizes the economic issues affecting society and the techniques for analyzing economic problems.
This program is one of the vehicles with which we achieve our departmental objective of "promoting economics and financial literacy to all students who take our principles" course as a general education requirement or as part of the business core.
Finance Major
The finance program's objective is to develop communication skills, problem solving skills, technological skills, and an understanding of practical and theoretical concepts in finance. To this end, the Department of Economics and Finance offers the B.S. in Finance, which allows interested pre-business students to major in finance. The Department of Economics and Finance faculty employs a variety of teaching methods to achieve the objective of the finance program.
Upon graduation from the finance program, students are well prepared for either a career in the fields of finance and business or for the pursuit of graduate studies in a variety of fields.
Business Analytics Minor
The minor in Business Analytics is an interdisciplinary minor designed to fill the gap between business functions and analytical insights. With its ubiquitous application in business processes, business analytical skills are highly sought after. Answering this strong market demand, this minor will equip business students with analytical literacy and an ethical mindset. Specifically, students will learn database management, data programming, and data visualization skills that can be applied in daily business practice.

The key learning objectives for the student desiring a Minor in Economics are the development of communication skills, problem solving skills, technological skills and an understanding of theoretical concepts in Economics.
Guidelines
Admissions
To be admitted into the Minor in Economics, students must have an overall GPA of 2.5, and have completed the following classes with a C or better: MAT113 or 115 or 131; MAT143 or MAT161; ECO111; ECO112; ECO251; and ECO351. Once admitted to the minor, students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 to continue in the minor.
Finance Minor
We offer a Minor in Finance program to students majoring in other disciplines but desire some financial literacy, especially in the fields of corporate finance, financial management, investments, and international finance. The key learning objectives for the student desiring a Minor in Finance are the development of communication skills, problem solving skills, technological skills and an understanding of theoretical concepts in finance.

To be admitted into the Minor in Finance, students must have an overall GPA of 2.5, and have completed the following classes with a C or better: ACC201; MAT 113 or 115 or 131; MAT 143 or MAT161; ECO111; ECO112; and ECO251. Once admitted to the minor, students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 to continue in the minor.
