Internships in Anthropology

Research conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers indicates that students graduating with internship experiences are more likely to find employment upon graduation. Internships offer students a hands-on opportunity to work in their desired field; learn how their course of study applies to the real world; and, build valuable experience that makes them stronger candidates for jobs after graduation.  The WCU Anthropology program has an active internship program that places students into a wide variety of positions.  Placements are developed on an individualized basis by students and their anthropology faculty adviser/s.  The internships are rigorous immersion experiences that allow student to apply their academic preparation and classroom knowledge to work-force experiences; interact professionally with peers and supervisors; and, develop specific professional competencies.

To qualify for an Anthropology Internship placement, students must:

  • Have completed at least 80 credit hours of coursework overall
  • Have completed ANT 102
  • Have completed an additional 12 credits in anthropology
  • Have a designated anthropology faculty internship sponsor
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall and in anthropology

Additionally, students will need to comply with any requirements specified by the university or internship site.  Students will receive credit by registering for ANT 420. Here is a list of some companies, organizations, and agencies that have recently sponsored WCU Anthropology interns:
