Curriculum Vitae

Brian Cox serves as the Assistant Dean of Budget and Personnel for the Wells School of Music at West Chester University. His primary responsibilities include tracking the financial status of all WSOM programs, overseeing the delivery of the academic class schedules, and managing the hiring & payroll for WSOM. In addition to this role, Brian also serves the Music Education department by supervising student teachers. Brian previously held the position of Director of Bands at Central Bucks High School South. Under his leadership, the program experienced substantial growth, doubling in size while consistently elevating the excellence of each ensemble.

Brian earned his Bachelor's degree in Music Education and a Master's in Music Degree in Wind Band Conducting, both from West Chester University. His educational philosophy centers around using music as a tool to cultivate better individuals. Brian firmly believes in creating a safe learning environment for students to make mistakes, fostering growth and personal development within the classroom.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education, Brian was honored with the 2021 PMEA Citation of Excellence Award for District 11. He has actively participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association, serving on the PMEA District 11 board for six years, including a two-year term as District 11 President. Brian is also a member of the National Association for Music Education and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
