The following policies apply to all transfer candidates upon entering the department.

Internal transfer candidates (undeclared major or change of major) who desire admission to the Department of Early and Middle Grades Education may apply after the completion of 27 semester hours at West Chester University. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 is required for candidates with 27-47 earned credits. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 and passing scores on the Basic Skills test is required for candidates with 48 or more earned credits. Internal transfer applications are accepted three times per year. Students should refer to the Department of Early and Middle Grades Transfer Advising information posted outside Recitation Hall, Room 106.

External transfer candidates who desire admission to the Department of Early and Middle Grades must apply for admission to West Chester University through Undergraduate Admissions. Accepted students will be directed to contact the Department of Early and Middle Grades Education to schedule a transfer appointment following admission to WCU.

Both internal and external transfer candidates will be admitted as probationary teacher education candidates consistent with teacher education policy. Candidates in this category may not take designated advanced professional course work, which requires full admittance to teacher education (Formal Admission status).
