CULTURAL - DIVERSITY RESOURCES
- Becoming Anti-Racist ELA Teachers This article provides suggestions and steps developed based on the work of scholars, teachers and activists, for moving towards anti-racist ELA education.
- Immigrants and Refugee Resources List of helpful resources for supporting immigrants and refugees
- No Place For Hate Anti-Defamation League (ADL) created education initiative aimed to improve the school climate to be more inclusive and safer for all students.
- No Place For Hate - 7th Grader Experience This article describes a 7th grader that had a great experience with the No Place For Hate initiative and created a No Place for Hate club at his school.
- Rethinking Schools Rethinking Schools is a nonprofit publisher and advocacy organization dedicated to sustaining and strengthening public education through social justice teaching and education activism.
- Social Justice Books A Teaching for Change Project. This website provides lists of multicultural and social justice books for children, young adults, and educators.
- Taking Action on Racial Equity and Justice This is a document providing information to assist in creating opportunities for meaningful discussions about race.
- Teaching Tolerance Pocket Guide Guide offering advice about how to respond to remarks bad and gives guidance for helping students to learn to speak up as well.
LITERACY
- Epic Digital library. There are books, videos, audio book for children. You can assign students certain students books to read. There is a great variety of genres and great selection to choose from for all levels/ages. Books are also available in Spanish.
- Newsela Newsela is a great digital reading site. It offers articles written for 4th grade through high school students on a large variety of current issues/topics. My favorite feature is that Newsela allows the teacher to adjust the Lexile level of each article, so that it is appropriate for each student’s reading level.
- Read Works Read Works is like Newsela. It is also a digital reading site that offers leveled articles and passages (nonfiction and fiction) for grades K-12. Each article contains question sets for students and there is also audio and vocabulary support.
- Read Write Think is a wonderful resource for teachers of reading and writing. It offers a plethora of lessons plans (complete with links to pdfs, etc.) for grades K-12 on a variety of topics and genres.
- Two Writing Teachers Blog A meeting place for a world of reflective writers.
MINDFULNESS RESOURCES
- CNUSD Virtual Calming Rooms This website is a place for students and families to find tools and strategies for managing emotions and feelings
- Mindful This website has helpful resources for healthy mind, healthy life.
- Yoga4Classrooms This website provides resources and information about evidence-based, trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness program for schools to promote social, emotional, and physical health and wellness, learning readiness and positive school climate.
PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND GROUPS
- American School Counselor Association The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) supports school counselors' efforts to help students focus on academic, career and social/emotional development so they achieve success in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society. ASCA provides professional development, publications and other resources, research and advocacy to school counselors around the globe.
- AMLE Resources Association for Middle Level Education
- K12 Online Learning Collective This teacher resource group was started on Facebook in March as teachers were leaving their HS classrooms. At the beginning, teachers were sharing free resources. Now, it has given way to a supportive community where teachers ask for ideas, strategies, etc. and everyone pitches in.
- NAEYC Resources The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is a professional membership organization that works to promote high-quality early learning for all young children, birth through age 8, by connecting early childhood practice, policy, and research.
- PDK International PDK International supports teachers and school leaders by strengthening their interest in the profession through the entire arc of their career.
RESOURCES FOR NEW TEACHERS
- AMLE New Teacher Tips National Education Association - Five new teachers share their strategies for success and sanity.
- Resources for New Teachers Kappa Delta Pi (International Honor Society in Education). The first years for any new teacher can be the toughest. One of KDP’s main goals is to help new teachers and the staff and faculty who support them through this time.
