Frederick Douglass Institute Book Award
"That where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is in an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob, and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe." - Frederick Douglass, 1817-1895, Abolitionist and Human Rights Advocate
Frederick Douglass believed in the quality of education to uplift one’s mind and prepare oneself for a better and brighter tomorrow. In following Douglass’ Legacy, the Frederick Douglass Institute offers annual book awards to two outstanding students who demonstrate integrity and dedication for human betterment as Frederick Douglass. We encourage all students to apply for the book award and support Douglass’ legacy in education and social betterment. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of completed application, a biographical essay, and the quality of a response to an essay on a topic relating to Human Rights or Social Justice (see application instructions for the required essay topic). Selected students will receive their book award at the Annual College of Education Scholarship Awards event. Book award recipients are expected to participate in Frederick Douglass Institute events and serve as Frederick Douglass Institute Ambassadors for the 2020-2021 academic year.
