Program Overview

Advance your career in the biological sciences, education, or health fields with a Master of Science in Biology from WCU. Our program provides students with advanced knowledge of biological content and application of biological research methods and techniques. The program focuses on content in cellular, ecological, genetic, microbial, molecular, organismal, and other areas of biology. Labs feature state-of-the-art microscopy and cell and molecular biology instrumentation and equipment, an herbarium, a research greenhouse, and aquatic and terrestrial animal facilities. In addition, the Robert Gordon Natural Area provides opportunities for field research in forest and riparian habitats right on campus. Master’s degree candidates gain expertise in the latest approaches to biostatistics, experimental design, information literacy, and communicating biological knowledge. The thesis track provides a more intensive experience through an independent research project. WCU’s approach prepares our students to apply knowledge and skills gained throughout the program to their careers and additional graduate and professional pursuits.
