Community Members Invited to Grow PA Discussion about Ethical Decision Making: Equipping the Commonwealth’s Students with a Tool that Meets Employers’ Needs
West Chester University invites members of the Chester County community to contribute to a lively conversation with higher education and regional corporate thought leaders about the need for all students in the Commonwealth to graduate with an essential tool that will contribute to their success while meeting employers’ needs — ethical decision making.
Hosted by WCU, the discussion is one in a series organized by Grow PA, a statewide initiative organized by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia that convenes people and organizations throughout Pennsylvania to establish a modern economic growth agenda that will foster “Big Ideas” designed to strengthen PA’s future.
The discussion, which is open to the public free of charge, will take place on Thursday, September 27, 7:30 – 9:30 a.m., at West Chester University, Alumni and Foundation Center, 202 Carter Drive, West Chester. Please visit wcupa.edu/president/forms/growpa/ to register. Seating is limited.
Panelists for the Grow PA discussion include:
- Lorraine (Laurie) Bernotsky, WCU Executive Vice President and Provost
- Marian Moskowitz, Vice Chairperson, Board of Directors, Chester Economic Development Council; Board of Governors Member, Vice Chairperson, Student Success Committee, Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE); Secretary, WCU Council of Trustee Member
- Nick Bayer, Chief Executive Office and Founder, Saxbys
It is fitting that West Chester University has partnered with Grow PA to coordinate such a timely discussion. The University’s President’s Corporate Advisory Board has been examining WCU’s general education core, which is designed to equip students with the necessary skills needed to work in today’s for-profit and not-for-profit environs. “As educators in the Commonwealth, we have a responsibility to prepare our students to be adaptable and to make sure that they have a tool kit with them at graduation that will enable them to transition to new opportunities,” said West Chester University President Christopher Fiorentino. “In this tool kit are those essentials required to be successful — ethical decision making, critical thinking, problem-solving, the ability to work in groups, as well as the ability to write and communicate well. If we do this, we will be preparing generations of students for life.”
